If your pet has come in for an appointment and one our doctors recommended the whiplash collar, here is what they meant by it.
Keep in mind, this collar in only good to prevent a cat/dog from licking or chewing on the lower half of their bodies. The concept of the whiplash collar is to add bulk to their necks so they cannot turn around and lick.
Here is what you will need:
- Appropriate size towel
- Duck tape/ packaging tape
- The Patient
Step 1: Fold the towel length wise so you have one long strip.
Step 2: Take a strip of tape that will go around the pets neck after the towel is wrapped around. (You want to do this before you wrap the towel around because the tape makes a loud noise that will scare the patient)
Step 3: Wrap the towel around your pet.
Step 4: Place the tape to keep the towel in place. Ta daa! Your whiplash collar is done!
(Make sure that the towel is wrapped tight enough so that it stays on but is not too tight that you cannot put your hand through.)
Step 5: Make sure you let them now it is not the end of the world!
